The Gaiety Theatre, located just off Grafton Street has offered people drama, opera, musicals, comedy concerts, festivals and pantomimes for over 142 years. The theatre has been home to some familiar Irish faces such as Maureen Potter, Niall Toibin and John B Keane and the bronze handprints of Rosaleen Linehan, Pavarotti and Brian Friel are all set into the pavement outside the theatre.
The theatre first opened in 1871 and since then it has thrived as a popular theatre venue in Dublin. Over the years the theatre has remained true to the original vision of its founders in presenting the highest quality of musical and drama entertainment. The theatre has undergone some changes and in 2003 the owners Denis and Caroline Desmond along with an investment of €2.15 million undertook to refurbish the theatre. The most recent change took place in 2007 with refurbishment work being done to the stage, the orchestra pit, and the main tower
